That's an awful title. Great!
INTRODUCTION
Embroidery is a process similar to sewing. In fact, it's almost exactly like sewing, with minor differences.
1. Rather than stitching fabric to fabric, you're stitching a pattern into the fabric.
2. It's generally done in color to look cool.
3. Profit.
Embroidering something starts from an initial design using a software utility. Search online for 'embroidery software', you'll find plenty of examples. From there, you'll take it to an embroidery machine. They are very expensive and tend to snap thread fast. It's either that, or thousands of hand-stitches.
Since my home computer isn't reliable enough to run (Vista drivers = bugs galore), I just did what everyone else has done: download pre-made designs.
The machines needed something that ran using the DST format, and I needed more than seven colors. I found:

These.
From this.
From this, all one has to do chuck them on a flash drive, sneakernet your way over to the needlebox, and shove the thing into the thing. Collect $200.
Well, you actually have to do some work. UI navigation! It's like ordering at McDingles's™ Place™, but you stay hungry after the thing's done.
Observations about the embroidery machine:
1. Lots of needles, lots of holes in your hand.
2. Looks fast, feels slow. Bring snacks.
3. Likes to snap thread like it's a country-rap song.
Like a dead rat with a cracker, we must poke into this technology.

WORK
The actual steps to embroider something are simple.
1. Don't (unless it's money or grades)
2. Put your base fabric into the hoop. Clamp it tight! Trim it down!
3. Shove the hoop onto the machine.
4. Insert thumb drive with DST-formatted files.
5. Select your files in the UI.
6. Map which colors go to which thread! (Don't forget to...check yo' thread.)
7. Hit start? Yes, do that.
8. Wait a while. Take some photos.
9. The machine will stop. Remove your flash drive and the hoop.
10. Release the fabric from the hoop. Add embroidery to your inventory.
